The Idea

On Thursday, July 11, 2024, I was lying in bed reading a book and it talked about two nations and the valuable trade routes between their cities that were at risk for causing a war. This sparked the idea for the game. I couldn't sleep after that and stayed up for a couple hours feverishly writing down all of the details that I could in a notes app on my phone.
The next day, I made a quick prototype with a white board and some pieces from other board games I have. My wife and I gave it a play test and decided it was a good idea.
That weekend, I got to work making the next version of the prototype. I bought a blank game board to draw the map on, and went to the local craft store to get some pieces that would work for now. I was still using some pieces from other games, but also printed out some cards for the game. We played it again that Sunday with our daughter (11) and came up with some revisions.
